Body found in Smith lake identified as missing boater

UPDATE: The ALEA Marine Patrol Division along with Cullman County authorities confirmed the identity of the body found in Smith Lake as missing boater Dustin New of Fultondale.

Authorities said the divers recovered the body from about 90 feet of water in the area where the accident was thought to have occurred.

ORIGINAL: A body was found in the Castle area of Smith Lake Saturday, according to Ashton Davis with Houston County Rescue.

Last month on July 16th, rescue crews searched Smith Lake in Cullman County after an industrial crane barge flipped over and 26-year-old Dustin New of Fultondale couldn't be found.

The search for New continued for several days.

Davis wasn't able to confirm the identity of the victim.

He says they will release more information when it becomes available.
