State of Alabama
Alabama Forestry Commission
The newly restored stone fire tower atop Flagg Mountain in Weogufka and the surrounding hiking trails will receive statewide and national exposure with a feature on Simply Southern TV.
The show will premiere locally on WBMA-TV 33/40 in Birmingham on Sunday, July 31, at 6:30 a.m. and will be rebroadcast on national cable network RFD-TV the following Wednesday at 3 p.m. Central time.
"We visited Flagg Mountain a few seasons ago when it was first announced that the Alabama Forestry Commission, along with other public and private groups, wanted to restore the fire tower," said Simply Southern TV co-host Mary Wilson. "It's impressive how quickly they finished this project, and the views from the top of the tower are spectacular. It's the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors — whether you're looking for a spot to bring the family for a picnic and short hike or if you're a serious hiker looking to take on the entire 330-plus miles of the Pinhoti Trail."
